Now that summer is officially over, it's time to figure out what to do with your hair this season. James Kavanagh, Technician Educator & Manager for Toni and Guy Chatswood, has his top tips on the upcoming hair trends for the cooler months.

For the cooler months we see a lot of changes with the way clients not only wear their hair but also the colour palate used. Gone are the days of sleek ironed out hair, this season is all about movement and wearing your hair softer, giving it a ‘less done’ feel.

Working with the hairs natural organic feel is being more and more focused on this season. With colouring the hair we have seen a lot of richness and warmth infused into the pallet, warm tones that are heavily influenced by nature: coppers, gold’s and rich chocolates will be everywhere. Blondes will forever be popular and the introduction of warm sandy gold tones is becoming another top look this season.

Low maintenance colour is also becoming a huge key in hair. We have moved away from the typical ballyage (strong depth changes from dark at the roots to really light at the ends) to prettier and softer root expansions, working more closely with the natural hair colour that creates a more glamorous subtle change from roots to ends. Celebs such as Jessica Biel and Kim Kardashian have this look perfected!

For the more daring clients pastel tones have been introduced into our blonde tones: Minky lilacs, rosé pinks, corn infused gold’s and even peach can be seen in our current Toni and Guy 2012/2013 collection ‘Artelier.’ These feminine beautiful tones are seen as an accessory to the hair itself, their playful nature not only add a new dimension to a hair cut its very easily reworked and can be left to fade completely out of the hair or changed regularly.

With winter coming up, hair can become dry and frizzy. My top tip is to use a weekly intense treatment, not only will it make your colour last longer, it will moisturise and keep your hair looking its healthiest. After shampooing and towel drying your hair apply a small amount of your mask (I recommend Label.M Age Defying-Recovery mask) to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair.
